Last Month’s Dance Report

I know that there are places where you could spend hundreds of dollars, get a decent meal, some good live music to dance to, and champagne to ring in the New Year.  But, none of them could offer or equal the sincere friendliness of our club, the magnificence and variety of our food, the quality and diversity of our music, or the honest wishes from all your dancing friends for a healthy and prosperous 2012!  Happy New Year folks – you all made our celebration one of the best ever!  There were a total of 63 of you who enjoyed the culinary delights of the Pendleton Bakery (who outdid their last year’s effort!) then danced the night away to greet the new year in the special comradery of our club!  I can sense that this is going to be a GREAT 2012 for all of us!

Our evening started with a cordial greet and check-in by two of the friendliest folks I know – Donna and Bill Allgood!  We don’t know any nicer way to be met at the door!  Thanks you two for doing a great job with that task, and for volunteering to do it again!  If you have any questions about cruising, ask the Allgoods!

During the break, Dennis reminded us of the Annual Meeting/Election dance next month.  All of our current board members are standing for re-election, but we will also be open to any nominations or volunteers from the floor during the meeting/dance.

Dennis also paid tribute to all of the current board members and their significant others for all of the work that they do throughout the year to ensure the success of our club.  Here, here!

He also specifically recognized Patricia and Jack DeVroomen for all of the flower and bulb donations they have made to the club for doorprizes.  Done not only this year, but in years past.  Thank you Jack and Patricia for being such dedicated supporters of the club!

We also want to recognize all of you who bring in your delicious baked goods from time to time, and all of you who help to perform the setup and takedown at our monthly dances!  THANK YOU ALL!

We recognized two folks with birthdays on this auspicious date, Chris Sabo (33) and Jeremy Schmutz (15) – Congratulations you two youngsters!

The doorprizes for the evening were the centerpieces on each table.  One person from each table took them home – Congratulations to you all!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:
Sometimes, all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

Last Month’s Dance Report

It was a great night for our Annual Meeting/Dance on Saturday last with 59 avid dancers in attendance! I count myself as one of the lucky ones, to have so many wonderful friends who gather together to enjoy a common interest – Food! – with a little dancing thrown in! You all are truly a magnificent group of people and I am so very privileged to know you all!

You were greeted at the door by Yvonne and her welcoming smile, alongside her partner Wayne and his quiet, unassuming demeanor – can you have more fun than to be around the Conovers? I think they know a dance step or two also! Thanks you two for a wonderful job at the Hosting table!

The very delicious Bar-B-Q buffet and dessert was provided by some of the best cooks in the Upstate – Dennis, Debbie, Ruthann, Yvonne, Chris Sabo, and Linda Payne. Thanks to you all for a satisfying meal! Thanks also go to Dennis for providing a lesson in the Bolero – what a beautiful step – and for the dance music for the evening!

During the break we conducted our Annual Meeting and the election of the Board for 2012. The only change in that regard was the swapping of positions by Dennis and Dave – see “Officers” at left. Chris Hanak gave a shortened version of the Treasurers report – we are in fine shape financially. Thanks to the members of the Board, and their spouses for all the work they do throughout the year to help make our dance club successful, and, a BIG THANKS to all of our members and attendees!

The door prizes were a necklace and earrings donated by Nancy Reh, and three bags of flower bulbs donated by Jack and Patricia DeVroomen. Thanks to you all for your generosity! Added to that was our standard gift certificate, this time to Fatz café. The winners are all visible in the dance photos on the web site – Congratulations all!

We also noted the need for people to sign up on the Hosting Table list to provide check-in duties from March through December – C’mon folks, this isn’t rocket science! Volunteers please!

REMINDER – Be sure to sign up for the dish you will bring to the March Covered Dish Dance! If you didn’t get a chance to sign up on Saturday, you can email Chris Hanak (address on first page) with your selection of dish, or ask what is needed. The covered dish dance in March is free to Members with a dish, $5.00 per person for Non-Members with a dish, and for all those without a dish, it is regular dance fee.

And once again, we want to recognize all of you who bring in your delicious baked goods from time to time, and all of you who help to perform the setup and takedown at our monthly dances! THANK YOU ALL! Oh, and my personal thanks to Brian Carver for relieving me of the photographer duties for the evening – Thank You Brian!

The dance lesson next month will be a new Charleston Line Dance – taught by our very own Chris and Frank Hanak. Don’t miss out on this one!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time.  Here it is for this month:

Last Month’s Dance Report

The trees were all abud, flowers had shown us some Spring color, and the pure white of dogwoods dotted the countryside as 65 of you gathered for our monthly dance soiree. Does life get any better than this!

You all got to sample the wares of your fellow cooks in the covered dish buffet – I’ll bet nobody went away hungry!

A special Thank You goes out to Carlie and Jan Coats for providing us a look at competition ballroom dancing with their demo of both the Waltz and Tango! Beautifully done, and very elegant! Thank you both very much!

Dancing for our Heroes

Rep. Brian White and Solicitor Chrissy Adams are among the eight local celebrities participating in the Sixth Annual Dancing for Our Heroes event, to be held Friday, April 13th at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center of Anderson. Please note that our President and friend Dennis Adams will be participating in this event, and our friends Wayne and Yvonne Conover plus Mary Ann McBride will also be competing with their partners. Please come out to support them, their partners, and their charities!

Produced by the Rotary Club of Greater Anderson, the event is modeled after the popular ABC TV show Dancing With the Stars. It is being held to raise money for eight local charities and the PolioPlus initiative of the Rotary Foundation.

A ticket costs $40 and a table for eight may be purchased for $320. Individual tickets are available at the Main Street office of Park Sterling Bank (formerly Capital Bank). Tables may be purchased by contacting Amelia Nelson at 934-9000.

Dancers will compete before Judges Randy Spearman, a two-time winner of Dancing for Our Heroes; Rotary District Governor Gary Goforth; and ballroom dancer Dave Thomas.

In addition to the Judge’s Choice award, dancers are selling votes for a dollar apiece to win a People’s Choice Award. All the money they raise will go to their individual charities and the profit from the evening will be divided among the charities with a smaller donation going to Polio Plus.

For general information, call Kathryn Smith at 202-7093.

Terpsichore smiled!  52 of you gathered for the April dance, were treated to a magnificent lesson in the Rumba, enjoyed the company of your fellow club members, and greeted several new dancers who we hope were impressed enough to join us again!  Who could ask for anything more?

Didn’t Joan and Doug Shier do a superb job of putting a smile on everyone’s face at the Hosts table?! I don’t know anyone who has more fun dancing than you two – Thanks so much for being our greeters this month!

Special Thanks! to Debbie, Dennis, Ruthann, Yvonne, Chris H, and Chris S for procuring and preparing a delicious buffet meal! It was so difficult deciding what to choose that I just took some of everything! Yumeee!

Thank you also (again!) to Patricia and Jack (in absentia) DeVroomen for the variety of bulbs as our door prizes! Our flower beds are all looking quite professional because of you two!

And a Super Special Thanks! goes to Rob Rizzuto and his teaching partner Lishan for presenting us with a very classy, and danceable, lesson in the Rumba! It is always fun when Rob and Lishan come down from the “big city” and teach us something new – and they are such nice people too! Thanks again you two!

Thanks also to new guest Kristi Jones for walking us through the Wobble, or was that wobbling us through the Walk? It was fun, and we appreciate your efforts to educate us Kristi!

The flower bulbs were won by Bill Forrest and Dave Dumin, the Longhorn gift certificate by Harriet Sherman, and the music CDs by Doug Shier. Congratulations everyone!

!!!Please pay your memberships dues!!! This is starting to sound like a broken record!

At the break, Dennis reminded us of the covered dish dance in June – there were sheets at the Hosting table for you to sign up for a dish to bring. They will be available again at the May dance – don’t forget to sign up! Members with a dish get in free, non-members with a dish pay $5.00/person, and everyone without a dish pay regular dance fees. Don’t miss out on the great food at this dance!

Dennis also noted that we need people to sign up for Hosting duties for the remainder of the year – c’mon folks, don’t make me harp on this!

I’m reserving this spot for a little humor (or serious stuff) from time to time. Here it is for this month: Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?
